    Oh, weep not though each bitter thought My Country!
    With agonising woes is fraught!
    My Country! Oh my Country!
    Dungeon, sword and flame are nought,
    When freedom for our Isle is sought,
    And with thy woes thy Freedom's bought,
    My Country! oh, my Country!
    Sad and dear, yet nobly wrought
    Oh my Country!
    For with clouds of smoke and flame,
    My Country!
    That from thy burning homesteads came,
    My Country! oh my Country!
    Heavenwards soared thy tyrant's shame,
    That Heavenly Justice shall disclaim, --
    That sheds a lustre on thy name,
    My Country! oh my Country!
    Cries of anger and despair
    Oh! my country!
    From thy children rent the air
    My Country! oh my Country!
    Through the roof trees sickning flare, and the torche's fiery glare
