  1. There once lived a widow and her son. They had only a pig. They wanted to sell the pig. The son was an "ashy pet". So one day the mother went to the market. While she was away, there came a wee man into the house. He began to play a fiddle. The "ashy-pet" got up and began to dance and dance and dance until he nearly killed himself at it. So the wee man stopped and said "I will give you the fiddle for the pig. The "ashy-pet agreed. So he gave him the fiddle and anyone came in he would start to play the fiddle and they would start to dance and dance and dance until they would nearly kill themselves dancing. The wee man told him if anyone started to fight with him to say to the stick "Lay on them" and the stick would beat and beat and beat them until they roared for mercy. The wee man got a rope, put it on the pig and brought it away with him. When the mother came home she was mad with her son. She began to scold him. He started to play the fiddle She started to dance and dance and she danced until the neighbors all came in. He then said to the stick
