    Measles: Three times the patient wore a halter.
    Cough: Drink the juice of dock leaves.
    Sunburn: Rub pansy and butter milk on the affected part.

  2. Burning Lime: Every farmer had a lime kiln on his farm. The kiln was made by digging a hole in the ground. The hole was then lined with clay. Turf was then carted to the site. Limestone was then gathered and a fire was made at the bottom of the kiln. When it was well alright limestones were placed on it. Another fine was placed on top of them and so on until the kiln was full. The lime came out through a hole left at the bottom of the kiln. The burning was continued for at least a week. People had to remain up at night to keep the kiln burning.
    Candle Making: Rush candles were made by dipping the inside of the rushes grease which was melted in a tin.
