Everybody knows the history of that rebellion and the defeat of the French and Irish at Ballenamuck, when they were outnumbered seven to one. No great credit to their foes But as was usual with the English soldiers, Adter the Frenchmen were made Prisoners of War Their ferocity knew no bounds. The wholesale slaughter of the Irish was determined on and every effort made to carry it out and succeed to a great extent yet several bands of men made their escape from that ill-fated field and took to the mountains
