  1. There were two local landlords in this district long ago, namely Henry Likely of Gurteen who was my Grandfather he owned eleven tenants in the town-land of Gurteeen which he sold in the year 1904 to the Irish Land Comm-ission.
The other Landlord was a man named Owen Dwyer of Hollyfield who owned a townland called Co Gortnadrung in which there were four tenants.
Their tenants were taken over by the head Landlord he belonged to Lissadell and was known by name of Gore-Booth this occurred about sixty years ago. Gore-Booth was head Landlord over the whole estate and the land laws at that time were in favour of the land lords. The tenants all over Ireland were treated badly by their Landlords their rents could be raised or lowered as the Landlords wished. But different land acts were passed which did away with that.
