Stars twinkling in the sky and cars heard at a distance portend frost. The loud peal of the chapel bell is a sign of good weather. When the houses are visible in Donegal it is a sign of (stom) storm. When the stones sparkle in the rocks it is a sign of rain. The mist moving from the lake is a sign of rain. When there is a thick fog in the valley it is supposed to foretell high wind. When the roaring of the waves from the sea is heard it predicts snow. When live coals in the fire are of a blue colour it foretells rain.
