- 18th May 1938Animals of the farm.The farm animals in this locality are:- The horse, the cow, the sheep, the pig, the ass, the jennet, the mule and the dog.The horse is the principal beast of burden on the farm. He is used to plough and till the soil drawn around on the farm and roads for short distances. He is fed on the grass in Summer and early Autumn. In Winter he is housed in a stable and fed on hay, oats, potatoes and sometimes turnips in varying proportions according to the work he is doing. The litter for his bedding usually consists of oaten straw and sometimes wheaten. He is taken out daily for adrink and exercise if not working and there is no animal so prized as he on account of usefulness to his master. Each owner has some pet name such as Dolly, etc. The cow comes next to the horse in usefulness and in some cases is ever preferred to him as the produce(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
