    The time of the famine was in the year 1846,47.

    The time of the famine was in the year 1846,47. It was caused by the blight that destroyed potatoes. The people left themselves dependent for food upon the potatoes.
    The potatoes failed and rotted with the blight. There was twice as much people in it then as now. About a million of people died with hunger or of disease. About another million went from Ireland to the United States and to other countries. They died not only in the houses but in the fields and roads. And some people who were not able to pay the rent which the landlords wanted were thrown out of their houses
