  1. Long ago a man got marries and went to live in another village. His wife was giving him everything nice but he was not contented. He used to sit by the fire and seldom laughed. His wife told the neighbors how he was acting. They plucked a cock but felt a few feathers on his head and wings and tail and let him into the house. The man gave a look at it but turned away again. The wife consulted his mother. The mother told her to give him a pot of stirabout and a noggin of milk and to say, "Maybe you would eat some of this in the pot". She did as she was told and the man began eating. When he had it half eaten he began to laugh. His wife asked him what was laughing at. He said, "Did you see the cock last Sunday?".
