  1. Long ago a certain man used to go for a walk along the shore every day. One day he saw a boat coming towards him over the water. He saw five oars on each side of it, but he only saw one man rowing. When the boat landed a little old man jumped out. They spoke and the little man said, "Let's have a game of cards." The young man agreed. The price on the game was that the loser should do what the other would tell him. The young man won the first game and told the old man to make a castle. The old man made a sign and the castle was there. They played another game and the young man won it again. He was going to ask something but when he looked around the castle was gone so he asked for a castle that would stay there and it was made. They played another game but the old man won it. He said, "Don't sleep in one bed twice or don't eat off the same table a second time until you see me in my own house."
    When the young man went home he told his mother what happened. His mother
