  1. There was once a man coming from a fair in a donkey cart at night and he had no light on the cart. On the way he met a guard and he jumped off the cart and put the donkey up on the cart and went drawing the cart himself. When the guard came up to him and asked him why hadn't he a light, he told him to ask the driver and what he meant was to ask the donkey. The guard passed him by without saying any more to him.
