There was a copper mine being worked in Árd Oileán about eighty years.

There was a copper mine being worked in Árd Oileán about eighty years (ago). There was a tunnel built under the sea out as far as the Cabrachaí - sunken rocks between Árd Oileán and Shark. They noticed the tunnel caving in so they left it and no lives were lost. There was a house on the north of the island where miners used to live in but there is only one gable of it standing now.
