  1. About sixty years ago there was as English boat was coming to Clifden with a load of cement. The pilot did not know the way and they hit a rock outside the beach and the ship went down.
    They began to take the cargo off but they had not half of the cargo when the ship went down. Some time after the cargo floated off and some of it is still to be seen.
