about 20 years ago a great battle took place four miles out-side Slyne Head between the English and the German. One of the english boat that took place in the battle was the H.M.S. Glasgow. the germans were beaten in that battle. The people of Clifden thought it was slyne Head going off because there was fog out. they asked a light-keeper what it was. the light-keeper said it was the British ships and the German ships firing at each other. One of the shells landed near Slyne Head.
