  1. All was not sunshine for the Brothers in Clifden during the first few years. The Protestants had lots of money and the Goverment backed up the Mission School with plenty of British Gold. So the Brothers had nothing but whatever was collected for them and the generous assistance given by Dr MacHale.
    Some Brothers were sent out to the richer parts of Ireland collecting or 'questing' and with the money the Brothers at home could support themselves and supply some meals to the poor starving children who would not meddle with the Soupers
