  1. In the year of 1921 the Black and Tans came to Clifden. One night they came back to Cloughanard and they went into a small whitewashed cottage. There were only two old people in the house an old man and an old woman. The Black and Tans went into the house and dragged the old couple out on the street in the snow.
Now the old woman had five operations and she had to have a leather belt around her waist but when she asked for the belt they refused to give it to her. Then she had to walk over a mile in the frost and snow.
