sad day for the friars who counted many benefactors in both armies. Phelim O'Connor was then the king of Connaught who had built the refectory of the Abbey and also founded the Friary of Roscommon. After all both Norman and Irish were bound together by the same faith and both respected the friars who had consecreated their lives to the service of God and of their neighbour. In the year 1400 Pope Boniface IX granted an indulgence to all who visited the church devoutely and who contributed to the upkeep; it was also a favourite meeting place for the Irish Dominicans. By this time its golden age had almost passed.
