  1. It is an old custom for the Irish people to kill a fowl and spill the blood in the four corners of the house in honour of St Martin. All the children look forward to the great feast.
    Some people light a blessed candle and set it in the centre of the table while they are eating the fowl and saying the Rosary afterwards to show light to any deceased member of the family who might be suffering in darkness.
