The old people considered it unlucky to exchange hatching hens. If you got the loan of a hatching hen, you would have to return her again when the chickens are reared. They considered it lucky to put down thirteen eggs and set them on Friday. They would have a bird in each egg. The old people thought March the best month of the year for hatching eggs.
Tehy also thought a black March cock could keep away all evil spirits at night.
