    In olden times people uses put a piece of iron in with a setting of eggs to protect them from lightning.
    Old people used to believe that it was unlucky to have a crowing hen in the farmyard. In order to avoid this ill lick they used to go and throw her into the next county that all bad luck might go with her.
    If a cock crows at midnight there are supposed to be mischievous fairies about.
    If there was thunder while a setting of eggs was down the old people believed that the birds would die.
