  1. The great Irish famine occurred in the year 1841-46 caused by the blight that destroyed the potato-crop in the summer of 18454 -46
    The Irish people left themselves depending for food upon the potato-crop , the result of the potato failure caused starvation among them . About one million of them are estimated to have died of hunger and hundreds are thought to have emigrated from Ireland to Canada, United States, and England .
