    Local marriage customs are carried out in this district from New Year's day to Shrove Tuesday.
    It is called Shrovetide. On New Years Day all the young girls turn out looking their best , and , if they are not a married before the last Sunday in Shrove (Puss Sunday it is called, )they have big pusses when they are not married, so they are salted then to keep them fresh
