  1. The making of an oaten cake
    Long ago the way they used to make oaten cake was as follows. About two plates of oaten meal were put into a basin also some sugar and a tiny pinch of soda. Then all were mixed together until it was made into a hard lump. Then it was left on a bread board and flattened out. It is left their for a few hours until it stiffens. Afterwards coal are placed under the grid iron and on it the cake is placed. It is watched until it is baked the it is taken up
