    I am sorry poor Thomas Duffy now
    for soon you got your fall,
    For you thought you would trick the Jobber,
    But you got no straw at all.

    When Duffy spied Squire Griffin
    As he was for his roam
    Saying "Gods truth your honor"
    And I cannot take it home.

    When Duffy entered Gaffey's house
    He was in the best of Cheer
    Saying by "Goreb Sir I'll tell you
    That the Meelick's straw isn't dear.

    It was early next morning
    When Duffy and old Queen Ann
    They came along the road
    And a messenger to Baile Thiar immediately ran.
