  1. As I sat on my window one evening,
A letter man handed to me
    A little gillied invitation saying
Miss Buckley come over to tea
I know twas Pat Gilmore that sent it
I went over for friendship's sake
And the first thing he gave me to tackle
Was a slice of Pat Gilmores beautiful cake
    Chorus
There were prunes and plums and cherries
    Nutmeg cloves and berries
And the crust it was nailed on with glue,
There were carriages in abundance too.
it would build up a great stomach-ache
It would kill a man twice,
    After eating a slice
    Of Pat Gilmores beautiful cake
Miss Smythas proud as a peacock
    Came smiling and blinking along
