    exchanges, unknown to the Gobán Saor, who was overjoyed to see that his wish has at last been gratified.
    As the boy grew up the Gobán could not fail to notice that he was not at all as clever as he himself was and he deeply regretted that his son should be so stupid.
    When they used to go to work, the Gobán used to tell the youth to shorten the road (Geárr an Bóthar) by which he meant to tell a story. However the youth used to think that this meant 'cut the road' and would commence to cut the road with his axe.
