  1. Long ago there were many crafts carried on in Loughrea such as basket-making, candle making, shoe-making, which was made in Carra by the old people.
    They made the baskets from thin scallops, the candles from rushes, and tallagh, and they made two kinds of shoes, one class from percha and the others from the skin of the cattle. Percha is a yellow tree growing in the bog.
