  1. In olden times shops were very scarce in the country. up to a century ago, shops in our district were very uncommon and there were no travelling shops at that time. The country people had to come miles to Loughrea for their groceries.
    At that time when the country-people came to Mass, they were allowed to transact business after Mass, as shops were so few. They seldom managed to get their shopping done before Sunday.
