  1. The district of Loughrea had many old schools, the principal one was situated at Beal Gasca (now Bally Gasty) Nor-West of Loughrea on the Mount Carmel Road. There was an old mill and castle also there, people called Mac Nevins lived in it. It was a real Irish school.
    There was another one situated between Glanarcallin and Gorman's house, this was a hedge school and taught by a man called Staford, he fought in the army of Naplen and was a
