- A Local HeroMike Hynes usually known as Bucky was a great champion. He was about seven feet high and he was able to leave his hand on a wall ten feet high and jump clear over it. He was able to fling the half hundred weight ten feet farther than any of the champions. He was noted for his activity in running and jumping. He was so powerful that he made a bet with the master of the hounds that he would run before the hounds. They put oil on him that had the scent of a fox and he started at Derrydonnell and at Moyode there would be ladder left by a tree. If he went up on the tree alive he would get five pounds. Some busy-body cut the rungs of the ladder but he was such a wonderful man that he made a spring fourteen or fifteen feet from the ground on to a branch and made his escape from the hounds. He died at the old age of ninety-five years.Got from: My Uncle Bill, Ballykeerin, Bullaun, age 48 years.
