    Long ago when the old people used to throw out water ...

    1. Long ago when the old people used to throw out water , they used to throw it over their right shoulder and put salt on it.
    2. If a horse, shook himself, spit on him.
    3. After eating an egg they bored a hole in it for fear the fairies would make boats out of them.
    4. Not to let a coal of fire out of the house while churning
    5. If at any time a coal is being taken out of the house, a to break a bit off it.
    6. When going to bed put the tongs at the right hand of the fireside and sweep the hearth.
    7. If you point a knife at anybody, stick it in the ground three times.
    8. If you sneeze at the table throw a piece of food away to the fairies.
    9. When going out put a needle in your coat io keep the fairies away.
    10. Not to throw out any water on New Year's day.
    11. If a hen crows to kill it.
    12. If you hear any unknown voice calling you dont answer untill you hear the call three times.
    13. If rats leave a ship it is a sign that it is going to sink.
