  1. Why places got their names.
There are many places and many different names are put on them.
Clontuskert, was supposed to be called from an Northern family that was living there one time.
Lis-an-Uisce. There is a large fort in the middle of this field, and in Winter it is surrounded by water (Clontuskert the northern meadows).
Páibíns Hill. There was a house built on that hill long ago, and people called the man Páibín.
Urchree, It is said that during the time of the battle of Aughrim a poor old woman was passing a short distance from the place where they were fighting. A stream of blood ran before her when she was passing the road. She got such a fright, that she stood on the road. She got such a fright, that she stood on the road and roared to the top of her voice "ó mó craibhe" ever since it is called that name.
Gurteenville. It is so called because there is a two mile field beside the road.
Gorrymore. It was called from "Guirt Mór". There is a large field there, and it is up to fifty acres.
Gort Bán. The white field, it got it's name from being covered with daisies in Summer.
