The Wren Boys

Saint Stephen's day is a great day of sport throughout the country.
Boys and men dress in quaint coloured costumes and they wear funny masks on their faces so that they would not be known.
They go from house to house singing, dancing and playing; then the woman of the house gives them some money. They start off again to the next house playing and singing.
They share their money and go home. Some of them play on mouthorgans and others on fiddles.
They sing The wren, the wren, the king of all birds On Saint Stephen's was caught in the furze".
