  1. The local wild birds are:
wild ducks, wild geese, pheasants, grouse, pigeons, partridge, wood-cock, swan, blackbird, thrush, sparrow, crow, Robin, wren, magpie, sea-gulls, cuckoo, swallows, lark, Jack-daw, snipe, Willie-sack-tail, pilibín, starling, water-hen and scallop-crow and yellow-hammer.
The cuckoo and the swallow and the corncrake are the chief ones that migrate.
The rerun builds her nest in a wall.
The crow build her nest on the top of a high tree.
The crow usually lays about five or six eggs.
The thrush, blackbird and robin build their nests in bushes. The sparrow and the yellow-hammer in the eaves of houses.
The willy-wag-tail and the lark in turf banks and hedges.
The starling builds her nest in the middle of trees.
The cuckoo builds no nest at all. She lays her eggs in other birds’ nests.
It is said that when young boys rob a bird’s nest that the bird would drown herself.
When Our Lord was dying on the cross a robin came along and perched on the cross, a drop of Blood fell on his breast. Ever since the robin has a red breast.
People can judge the weather by the birds.
