  1. 1. Long ago there was a great famine in Ireland. The cause of this terrible famine was the failure of the potatoe crop.
    2. The people had nothing to eat only weeds and raw turnips and also sea weeds. The potatoe crop never faild since the year of 1848.
    3. The time of the famine thousands of people perished with starvation. The great famine was a disaster from which Ireland did not recover for many years.
