  1. 1. There was an old school in the village of Abbey before our present one. It is now a dwelling house for Tom Lynch and family. The scholars left that school and came down here in the year of our Lord 1922. The teachers who taught in that school were Mr and Mrs Whelan and Miss Donnelly.
    2. The greatest teachers that ever taught were the monks. They taught in the monastery. The walls of it are still to be seen. The monks left it about 400 years ago.
    3. There are also another school in Ballygown. It was between old Tom Burke's and young Tom Burke's house. there is not a sign of it to be seen now.
