Blessed ashes is put down with the crops to prevent them from being taken away.

The sign of the cross is made with milk on the cow's side after she has been milked.
A coal is put under the churn when churning so that the butter would not be brought.
People never put out any sweepings such as ashes or dirt of any kind on the first Monday of the New Year, nor people never spend money on that day.
It is said that if a person meets a red haired woman when he is going to a fair it is unlucky.
When people are leaving their homes and are going to live in a strange place they never bring a cat or the tongs with them for it is said to be unlucky.
People bring straw from a crib at Christmas so that if cattle get the murrain it is said that some of the straw would cure them.
