    They never had cement floors. They made a floor of yellow clay. They had a large flag as a hearthstone.
    They kept the hens and ducks in one corner of the house. In the slated houses they had small windows. The frame was of iron with panes a couple of inches long.
    Some people had no glass in the window. They had only a bag of straw which they stuffed the hole with.
