1. A Cruel Landlord

   Some years ago there lived a man whose name was John Glynn. He lived up in Lough Cutra, and he owed some rent for his lands. The agent demanded the money, and the man had not it, and he did not know what to do for the land was going to be taken off him.
   At that time strange people came to the town. They were called people from the North. One of those men happened to be in my Grand-father's house when the man that owed the money came in and was very distressed over having to give up his lands. The North man asked him how much money he had. The man said he had ten shillings. The north man said to change the ten shillings into coppers. The man did so, and brought them back to him. He ordered my Grand-father and the man and all in the house out of the Kitchen, and told them to remain in the room till he would call them. When he was alone, he sat on a chair and took each penny in his hand in turn and rubbed it to the wall saying something easy at the same time.
