  1. There is a big house near Kinvara and it is known as the residence of Baron De Bastro a French gentle-man.
    Ther is a cross near the house namely ''geara ban''. In olden times people used to pass from midnight until two o'clock A.M. and some people used be killed and more chased back.
    There was a man from the district who lived in New Quay. One night his wife was ill, and he had to go into Kinvara for a nurse.
    When he reached the cross a ghost in the shape of a woman appeared before him. She halted him, and she asked him where was he going, and he told her. He said to her ''Don't murder me or you will take the life of three,'' and she let him pass and he said to her, ''I will come again at the same time to-morrow night.''
    The man went and told the parish priest. The priest told him to bring holy water and make a round circle with his foot and sprinkle holy water around it. The
