    After a while one of the girls married and then they were very happy. One night as they were sitting by the fire they heard a heavy sigh behind them and on looking round saw a man dressed in white standing behind them. He said, "Do not be afraid for I am your great-Grandfather. This sword in my hand was blessed by the Pope Of Rome and now I'm giving it to ye. Now let ye and a few servant-men go to the glen to-morrow and bring a spade and shovel with ye. And let you my great-Grandfather carry the blessed sword in your hand and it will keep you from danger. Ye'll find it under the fairy-thorn."
    So they went to the glen next evening. When they were digging the monster appeared and the girl struck him a blow and killed him.
    They were not long digging when one of the girls felt something hard under her shovel. They cleared away the clay and there they found the gold. They
