- (continued from previous page)At the door sat a black cat. "Me - ow,"
said the cat, "what did you bring me?"
"A trap for rats," they answered. "O thanks,"
said he, "I will let you in." The wise woman
met them, and she said she knew the
cause of their visit already. To the first she
gave a magic carpet, so that if you sat
on it you would rise into the air. To
the second she gave a magic sword which
with one blow you could kill a giant. To the third she gave a magic suit which, if worn would make you invisible.
With these useful treasures they hurried home. Soon they were sailing to the top of the mountain. Then the second youth donned the magic suit, and sword in hand entered the giants' castle. The
giants were feasting on cows when
suddenly one of the giants' heads fell
off. The others followed quickly. The youths had done their work well. The giants were no more. After that the youths got the thousand pounds. And, as the giants were dead, the people lived happily ever after.- Collector
