    A local landlord named Pollock in the famine year resided in a place named Fairfield situated near the little village of Greggs. This monster Pollock resided in the district sixty years or thereabouts and carried out evictions on an extensive scale and score of once comfortable townlands were literally cleaned off by this landlord. Almost every living soul on his immense estate were banished from their homes by this tyrant. Hundreds of human-beings could be seen beside the ditch, their tents consisting of a few slicks which the had taken from their demolished homes within view of which they were
