In olden times turf was used for fuel. In bogs and in moory places bog-deal was found and this timber was used for heating and lighting. Bog-deal burns with very brilliant blaze, and with its light the old people spun the thread which they used for different purposes. Very few people knew anything about coal in these times.
Padógs were then used as we now use candles. They were made by getting three narrow strips of calico or some soft material and plaiting them together. They
