- 1. During the Shrove marriages take place. Fridays are unlucky days for marriages and also during the months of Lent and the month of May. There is money given in same cases. Stock and goods are sometimes given. Some people remember marriages in the houses, but it is a long time ago, more than a hundred years.
There is feast held in the house. A lot of straw-boys visit the house. There were processions and haulings-home in many cases.
The people used to race their horses home from the wedding and their wives sat behind them.(continues on next page)

- 2. Most marriages took place before Lent and before Advent than at any other time of the year. The month of May was counted unlucky for a wedding. Matches were made at night by the fire by the old people. A fortune was given to the girl by her father. On the marriage-day there was usually a feast given in the Bride’s house.
