  1. From my mother last night I heard the following old trades that were in Tuam long ago.
    There was a candle-factory in Bishop Street, and they used to make candles out of the tallow. It was Kilgariffs who owned it.
    A man who lived in Kilbannon used to skils for eggs, and also baskets for turf. He made them from ruses and he used to sell them at the markets on Saturdays.
    There was a great man in Tuam for weaving Patrick McLouglin was his name, and he used to weave cloth.
    There was a great man for thatching from Clous Ruaidh Patsy Keating was his name he used to go a lot of thatching around Tuam long ago.
    There was a man who used to make nails living down in High Street. Long ago a man named Jimie Gill owned a lime kiln over in
