  1. The penal times were hard in this district. There was a priest hunted from Ballyhau. His name was Father Tully. He was caught near Dunmore and hanged.
    Sometimes the people could not get a priest at all to read mass. Mass was often said in the corner of a field.
    There is a lake in the Belmount called "Loc nan-alcora." There was an alter built on its shore.
