  1. In olden times there lived in Tuam a man called Mr. Killgariff. He made candles from tally. This man had a big boiler for boiling tally. He got the tally from the Slaughter Houses and then the candles were much larger than the candles are going now. They were very soft and they would not show much light. He charged a penny each for them.
