  1. There were a lot of customs connected with long ago. It was the custom of the people to put a coal or a grain of salt under the churn to break the spell that was supposed to be in the milk. My grandmother used to practise this long long ago. An old man who used to visit our house told us that it also was the custom to drop a red hot horse into the milk immediately after milking.
