    T'was the first day of December,
    A cold and frosty day

    At the court in Loughrea

    Mr. Shiels appeared for Sheehan
    Dr. Cornyn for Carew
    And it was most amusing
    To be listening to the two

    Mr. Shiels then asked Sheehan
    Where this poet did reside
    Oh! very soon you'll see him
    For his over there one side

    When Madden went up to take his
    seat.
    Within the witness box,
    He appeared so nervous
    He was shaking in his socks.
